MidoriJordan 191
I called you last night. I wanted to hear your voice again, it’d been so long since I last heard that beautiful melody of yours. We were in a crowded room, parted by a sea of people. I made out the shape of you in the clouds of cigarette smoke that hung low in the air like the music that played behind all of the noise. You spotted me and met my gaze through the realm of intoxicated and complacent 20-somethings that separated us. Why didn’t you pick up? I tried not to drown in the hellish sea of beer and cigarettes that lay before me. It’d be worth following the flow of dashed dreams and past mistakes if it’d lead me back to you. Your friends bobbed around like a beacon out to show me my life was near savior, but you were nowhere to be found. Cast away in the waves of despair that filled the room, I began to drown in the regret I held at bay this time of night in my own bed. As my vision faded as though being pulled under into the dark depths I met your gaze one last time as you left with a handsome stranger. A devil to take my place and lead you to his as we once did. I vow if I ever land home, I’ll not search for that X anymore, for that treasure is long buried. Farewell my dearly departied.
Kitty 126
Is departed spelled wrong on purpose???? But good writing tho.
MidoriJordan 191
So it's kind of a play on words; the characters are physically and metaphorically departing from one another and the setting is a party. There's also the connotation that the pursued interest is unfaithful/disinterested in a relationship with the pursuer which is somewhat more typical of people who regularly attend parties like that described, they're looking for a hookup among the same lonely depressed faces they see in the mirror to find some happiness versus a potentially healthy and long-lasting relationship. Anyways, departed-partied, departied. It's just a play on words. Thanks for asking.
