Hello everyone,

I'd like to give a short update on the DCC 2.0 initiative. I humbly made the post announcing the transition in leadership here on December 23rd, not knowing what to expect. Your reaction blew me away. The amount of activity I've seen on the site is amazing. We are at an activity level that we haven't seen since July 2017, a year and a half ago. Furthermore, we are well on our way to matching or even surpassing 2016 levels of activity. Thank you all for your continued support and your belief in second chances.

Some of you have noticed my status updates letting you know what's changed on the forum, but I figured I would give everyone a more permanent progress report. We have officially entered Phase II of our plan to revitalize the site. Phase I is / was preparing the site for the return of old members and the arrival of new members. Phase II is our effort to bring those members to the forum. We have some concrete plans to attract new members to the forum. I will make a more detailed post on our efforts when I feel it is appropriate, but here are just a few of the ways we intend to do this:

- A reputation system which rewards members who recruit new members.

- Google Ads -- this has already started. We are paying a certain amount of money a month to advertise our site on Google.

- Target affiliating and advertising -- We will reach out to internet users with various interests (gaming, K-Pop, etc) and recruit them to the forum. Part of this is partnering with other message boards to mutually advertise to one another.

Perhaps most important to Phase II are the ongoing efforts in Phase I to make the site an enjoyable place to stay.

Here's what you can do to help... Keep coming to the site! Keep creating topics, sending PMs, etc. You guys are awesome!

Here's A Look At What We've Done So Far:

- Made a Non-Discrimination promise to all the users of this board.

- Re-ordered the order of forums on the board.

- Added several new forums, such as the Manga, KPop, Jazz, and Politics board. (several more are on the way)

- Re-enabled registrations, which had been down due to a lack of updates to the spam prevention system.

- Promoted Liberty to the new Community Management Group, a group designed to maintain site activity levels.

- Added the Members Directory to the top nav-bar.

- Made several changes to our UI, including making the dark theme Chemical Cupcake our new default.

- Restored the "Anonymous Mode" browsing feature.

- Updated cursing filters and the related foul language rules

- Reviewed all banned accounts and lifted many of these bans.

- Created a new user group for retired staff members who made lasting contributions to the site.

- Updated site security.

- Updated the Staff Directory to reflect recent staff changes.

- Sent out a bulk email recruiting old users back to the forum.

- New post ranks

- Edited user group permissions to be more liberal.

- Put ads on the site to generate revenue and pay for new features, external ads, etc.

- Archived several old threads and created a system for un-archiving them if needed

- Updated our meta tags and SEO.

- Added rules to the new Politics section.

- Added the Fandom field to profiles.

- Added the Tagging feature to topics in order to allow topics to be more easily searched.

Once again, thank you everyone for your amazing support during this exciting time. The staff has a lot of exciting updates in store for the site. We're not going anywhere. This site is going to continue to flourish for a long time. If you have ideas on how we can continue to improve, by all means, send me a PM or make a post in the Support forum.

Have a great day!

Regards,

The DCC Staff

I'm impressed by the size and the effectiveness of your reforms. Almost reminds me of Justinian's reforms, in a way. With substantially more advertising and effective SEO, I hope that this forum will receive a decent trickle of new members. The default theme provides us all with a nice nostalgia feel, thanks for that.

>A reputation system which rewards members who recruit new members.

Any specifics on the rewards?

We are still brainstorming. Some of our ideas are rewards involving features we haven't added yet, so I won't share those. Other potential awards include free ad removal, color changes to your username, staff member for a day, etc.

Suggestion to add a direct donate button for those of us who use adblock

Or a Patreon? Maybe...

While this is a good idea, I don't want to ask for donations unless I can provide a service in return. I will go ahead and reveal that I plan to add the option for a DCC Premium account.

That's fair.

With regards to premium, I'm interested to see how that would work out. I think it would have to be lucrative enough for someone to actually pay for it, while also not providing too much content to premium users that free users don't have.

yeah cause you don't want to make this like CP was where members had all the good stuff and regular users didn't have anything

That's a fair point. It could work in a similar way to Reddit Gold (now Premium)

I think it was a good system nonetheless, free cp was good enough to enjoy for me. There were a lot of codes for us too. Plus later they added more stuff in the game itself like the outfits. But of course, that system would be terrible for DCC

I disagree with the first part, but I do agree it would be terrible for DCC :)

The staff will have to work out the details of premium, if it ever becomes a thing. We will not take away any functionality users already have from the free tier. The last thing I want is to commercialize the site. I would merely like to offer perks for those who help support the site.

Sorta like Patreon then! Sounds good so far.
